Website design and maintenance charges in India
Ask five people what a small business website costs and you will get five different answers. This guide breaks the cost into its parts, explains what website maintenance charges usually cover, and shows how a low-cost website design plan compares over the first few years.
How much does a website cost in India?
A business website has a one-time build cost and a set of running costs. The build is the design and setup. The running costs keep it online, secure and up to date. The ranges below are indicative for a small business site of five to eight pages built by a freelancer or a small agency.

E-commerce stores, booking systems, custom software and multi-language sites cost more, because each adds design, development and testing time.
What are website maintenance charges?
Maintenance charges pay for the work that keeps a site healthy after launch. Depending on who you ask, they can mean very different things, so check the list before you compare prices. A proper maintenance plan usually covers:
- Hosting and uptime: the server, and someone watching that the site stays up.
- Security updates: keeping the software, plugins and SSL certificate current.
- Backups: regular copies of the site, so a mistake or a hack can be undone.
- Content edits: changing prices, timings, photos and offers when you ask.
- Support: a person to call or message when something looks wrong.
Some plans bill yearly as an annual maintenance contract (AMC). Others bill monthly. A low yearly fee that covers only hosting can end up costing more once every small edit is charged separately.
Why do website quotes vary so much?
Two quotes for “a website” can differ several times over because of:
- Custom design or template: a design made from scratch takes longer than one adapted from a tested layout.
- Number of pages: every page needs content, layout and checking on phones.
- Who writes the words: copywriting is often extra, and it is the part most owners underestimate.
- What happens after launch: some quotes include a year of hosting and changes, others stop the day the site goes live.
- Features: online payments, bookings, logins and product catalogues all add cost.

What happens after the first year?
The ₹499 a month rate is a launch price for our first 10 website clients, for their first year. After that the standard rate of ₹24,999 a year applies, which works out to about ₹2,083 a month. In the first year you pay ₹5,988 plus GST in total, with no build fee up front.
We show both numbers so you can compare honestly. Add up any quote you get over three years, including the build, hosting, domain and maintenance, and compare the totals rather than the first bill.
Is GST extra?
Yes. All our prices exclude GST, which is added to the invoice. When you compare quotes, check whether each one includes GST, because some agencies quote with it and some without.
How to keep your website costs low
- Start with the pages customers actually need: what you do, prices or starting rates, photos, timings and contact.
- Register the domain in your own name, so you are never locked in.
- Ask what maintenance includes, and what a single edit costs outside the plan.
- Prefer one monthly or yearly fee that covers hosting, updates and support over several separate bills.
- Get your photos and text ready before the build starts. It saves time on both sides.
Low-cost website design vs a cheap website
A cheap website is one with a low first bill. A low-cost website is one that stays cheap to run. The difference shows up months later: a site built for a small fee and then left alone slows down, breaks on new phones and stops showing up in search. Before you choose, ask who will fix it when something goes wrong, and what that will cost.
